Emma Kai Thomas, Senior Communications Manager

As Senior Communications Manager, Emma creates and delivers campaigns to amplify Common Seas’ work in tackling plastic pollution, with a focus on human health, SIDS and just transition.
Emma specialises in targeted campaigning and fostering thought leadership on social and environmental justice issues. She has led communications for nonprofits in the environmental, gender equality and disability rights sectors, including launching landmark corporate plastics disclosure data for environmental disclosure organisation, CDP.
Outside of work, Emma volunteers for Palestine justice organisation Friends of Al Aqsa, and is an ‘Environmenstrual Ambassador’ with the Women’s Environmental Network.
Emma’s wrote her master’s degree thesis on environmental justice with a focus on the postcolonial roots of Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. She is eager to continue raising awareness of the unequal impacts of our interconnected environmental crises on frontline communities through Common Seas’ work to tackle plastic pollution.
