Common Seas explains the need to empower the next generation of young planet protectors.

Common Seas’ Managing Director, Jo Royle spoke to Education Today about the importance of empowering and equipping our young people to help them be part of the solution to our plastic pollution problem.

“We create 220 million tons of plastic waste per year of which 40% pollutes our environment and just 15% is recycled. Within 20 years, the amount of plastic entering the oceans is on track to triple.”

This week, Jo was featured in Education Today, talking about how we have the responsibility to empower our young people to be part of the solution and how Common Seas’ free ocean plastic learning resources could be a crucial ingredient.

The Ocean Plastics Academy aims to make plastics education mainstream by delivering free resources that parents and teachers can use in school or during education at home.

The programme also provides a toolkit which guides teachers and students through steps to measure and reduce single-use plastics in their schools.
