Teaming up for #YoungSeaChampions
We want to do as much as we can to instil a deep love of the ocean among young people and equip them with the knowledge and skills to protect it. That’s why we’re so excited to announce a new campaign we’re running with the Marine Conservation Society.
Through Ocean Plastics Academy and Cool Seas Explorers programmes, both Common Seas and Marine Conservation Society have some amazing resources that bring the wonder of the Ocean to life. Inspiring educational experiences and projects are on offer, showing what we can all do to protect the ocean from plastic pollution.
For the month of March - we’ll be sharing two new resources each week based around four exciting, ocean-based topics: The Ocean and Us, Caring for the Coast, Plastic Investigators and a Film Finale!

When the UK first went into lockdown, we adapted these resources to support learning at home. We know the last year has been hard on children and their families for so many reasons. With time outdoors so restricted, and screen time at an all time high, we wanted to help young people feel connected to the ocean in a creative and empowering way.
Whether you are home schooling or looking for some after school fun, these activities are for everyone.
Our combined resources offer an opportunity to learn about the ocean and plastic pollution through Marine Conservation Society’s inspiring webinars, before stepping away from the screen to investigate, create and act for the ocean with Ocean Plastics Academy’s home school activities.
Marine Conservation Society Education Manager, Jenny Griffiths, said
“We’re excited to be joining forces with Common Seas for this campaign. By combining our resources to support teachers and families, we are pleased to be able to continue to raise Ocean Literacy during these challenging times.”
With parents and teachers juggling so much, we hope that this combination of activities provides an even richer learning experience through fun, exciting activities that will inspire and motivate young sea champions.
